How to Play Funky Time: 17 Bet Spots, Letters, Digital Wheel and Bonus Games Explained

By LiveCasinoData editorial team ยท Updated 2026-08-28 ยท 14 min read

Funky Time is Evolution's disco game show on a 64-segment wheel with 17 bet spots: the number 1, the 12 letters of PLAY FUNKY TIME, and four bonus games (Bar, Disco, Stayin' Alive, VIP Disco). Before each spin a Digital Wheel boosts one or more spots, so a letter that normally pays 25:1 can pay up to 1,250x. The 1 spot has the best RTP at 95.99%; every spot carries a house edge of roughly 4-5%.

Key takeaways

  • Funky Time has 17 bet spots on a 64-segment wheel: 28 segments show 1, 24 show letters (two per letter), and 12 belong to the four bonus games.
  • The number 1 pays 1:1 and lands 43.75% of the time; each letter pays 25:1 and lands 3.125% of the time.
  • The Digital Wheel spins before every round and can boost the 1 spot or a letter by up to 50x, which is how a letter reaches 1,250x.
  • A bonus game lands on 18.75% of spins in theory; our tracker measured 18.59% over 61,998 rounds in the last 90 days.
  • The 1 spot has the highest theoretical RTP at 95.99%, and no spot or combination of spots removes the house edge.

Funky Time is played by putting chips on any of 17 spots, waiting for the Digital Wheel to hand out multipliers, and then watching a 64-segment wheel decide the round. The number 1 pays 1:1, each of the 12 letters pays 25:1, and the four bonus games (Bar, Disco, Stayin' Alive, VIP Disco) pay whatever multiplier they produce. Our tracker has logged 165,429 rounds since December 2025, so every rule below is checked against what the wheel actually did. For the broader overview, read the Funky Time guide; this page is the step-by-step version.

What is Funky Time?

Funky Time is a live game show from Evolution, launched in 2023 and streamed around the clock from Riga. The set is a 1970s disco with a dancing robot called Mr Funky and a host beside a 64-segment money wheel. Players bet on where the wheel stops.

It differs from Evolution's other wheel shows in three ways. The wheel has 64 segments rather than 54. Instead of a ladder of numbers there is a single number, 1, plus twelve lettered segments spelling PLAY FUNKY TIME. And the pre-spin multiplier feature, the Digital Wheel, can boost several spots at once.

Every bet on the board is a house-edge bet. Evolution publishes the 1 spot as the best return at 95.99%, and the remaining spots sit a little lower. Nothing in this guide changes those numbers.

What does the Funky Time table show on screen?

The layout has five parts.

The money wheel. Vertical, 64 segments, in the middle of the video. Segments showing 1 dominate; letter segments carry a single character; the bonus segments have their own artwork. A pointer at the top marks the winner.

The Digital Wheel. A screen above or beside the main wheel. It spins before every round and shows which bet spots have been given a multiplier and how large it is.

The bet board. Seventeen spots along the bottom: the 1 spot on its own, the letters laid out to read PLAY FUNKY TIME, and four larger bonus tiles. The chip selector sits beneath with undo, double and repeat controls.

The betting timer. A bar that counts down while bets are open; when it empties, the Digital Wheel starts.

Chat and history. A chat panel connects you to the host, and a results strip shows the last few outcomes. The in-client history is short; our live stats page shows the same wheel across tens of thousands of rounds.

How does a round of Funky Time work?

A round takes about 40 to 50 seconds of betting plus the spin, and a bonus game adds one to three minutes.

  1. Open the game. Find Funky Time in the game shows section of a licensed casino's live lobby. If a spin is under way, wait for the payout and the next betting window.
  2. Set your chip size. Bet limits typically run from 0.10 to 2,500 per spot, though your operator sets the exact range.
  3. Place chips. Tap a chip, then tap spots. You can bet on one spot or all 17, with different amounts on each. Betting on every spot costs 17 units per spin, which matters later.
  4. Watch the Digital Wheel. It stops on one or more spots and shows their multipliers. Nothing has been won yet; a boost only pays if the main wheel agrees.
  5. The host spins the wheel. Sixty-four segments turn and slow, and the pointer settles on one.
  6. 1 and letter wins pay at once. A chip on the winning spot pays 1:1 for the number or 25:1 for a letter, multiplied by any Digital Wheel boost on that spot.
  7. Bonus wins start a bonus game. If you had a chip on the winning bonus spot, the screen moves to that game. Bar asks you to pick a drink; Disco, VIP Disco and Stayin' Alive play out with no input from you.
  8. Settlement. Your balance updates and the next betting window opens.

What are the 17 Funky Time bet spots and what do they pay?

The 64 segments split into 28 for the number 1, 24 for the letters and 12 for the bonus games. Chance per spin follows directly from the segment count.

Bet spot Segments Chance per spin Base payout Maximum with boost
1 28 43.75% 1:1 50x
Each letter (P, L, A, Y, F, U, N, K, T, I, M, E) 2 each (24 total) 3.125% each 25:1 1,250x
Bar 6 9.375% Bonus multiplier Bonus dependent
Disco 3 4.6875% Bonus multiplier Bonus dependent
Stayin' Alive 2 3.125% Bonus multiplier Bonus dependent
VIP Disco 1 1.5625% Bonus multiplier Bonus dependent

Payouts are quoted as "to one", so a 10 chip on an unboosted winning letter returns 250 plus the stake, and the same chip on 1 returns 10 plus stake. A bonus chip returns stake multiplied by the bonus result.

Evolution lists 95.99% for the 1 spot as the highest RTP in the game; letters and bonus games sit a little lower, in the mid-90s. The full per-spot table, and how our observed figures compare, is on the Funky Time RTP page.

The letters deserve a closer look because they are the part of the board that is new to most players. Each letter is its own spot with its own two segments; there is no bet on a word or on "any letter", so covering the phrase means twelve separate chips. A single letter wins 3.125% of the time, about once every 32 spins. In our last 90 days the letters landed between 3.02% (L) and 3.30% (T) of spins each, and the longest single-letter drought we recorded was F at 331 spins.

The 25:1 payout on its own does not reach the published RTP. An unboosted letter returns 25 times 2/64, or 0.78 per unit staked; the rest comes from the Digital Wheel, which lifts a boosted letter to as much as 1,250x. Our tracker has seen that ceiling three times, on P (2026-07-09), M (2026-07-16) and E (2026-08-09). The median letter payout is still 25x, because most letter wins are unboosted.

How does the Digital Wheel work?

The Digital Wheel is the multiplier feature that runs before every spin, and it is the reason the payout table has a "maximum with boost" column. It picks one or more bet spots at random and assigns each a multiplier. The number 1 and the letters can be boosted up to 50x. When a bonus game is picked, that bonus starts with its internal multipliers already raised.

The rule that matters: a boost pays only if the main wheel then stops on the boosted spot. A 50x flag on the letter K means nothing if the ball wheel lands on 1. Beginners often read the Digital Wheel result as a win in itself and are surprised when nothing pays.

Because the boost can land on the 1 spot, the humblest bet on the board has a real ceiling. Our tracker recorded a 50x payout on 1, the maximum possible. The typical result is modest: the average payout on 1 across our data is 1.2x and the 90th percentile 2x, so a boost on 1 is uncommon and usually small.

How do the four bonus games play out?

You only take part in a bonus game if you had a chip on the winning bonus spot. Beyond that rule the four games differ a great deal.

Bar. Three glasses on a counter: beer, whisky and a cocktail. Each hides a random multiplier, and you choose one drink before the reveal. Whatever your glass holds is your multiplier, and Digital Wheel boosts raise all three. Bar occupies 6 segments, so it is the bonus you will see most often. Our tracker logs the best of the three glasses each round, not what any one player picked: over 90 days that top glass was 14x at the median, 17.7x on average, and 270x at most. The average gap between Bar hits was 10.7 spins.

Disco. Mr Funky steps onto a dance floor whose squares hold multipliers. A die decides how far he moves; each square he lands on adds its value to the running total. The game ends when he reaches the Disco square or uses up the allowed moves. Disco holds 3 segments. The top multiplier reached in a Disco round was 12x at the median in our data, 19.1x on average, and 414x at most.

Stayin' Alive. A wall of colored balls above a counter. You start with three lives and a multiplier. As balls fall, some raise the multiplier and some cost a life; the game ends when the third life goes. It is the most volatile of the four. Our tracker records the highest multiplier on offer in each Stayin' Alive round (the best of the three teams), and that figure sat at 30x at the median, 45.3x on average, and peaked at 2,800x on 2026-07-15, the largest figure in our 90-day window, with 1,250x on 2026-08-25. It sits on 2 segments and appeared on 3.19% of spins.

VIP Disco. The same dance-floor mechanic with more moves and larger values. One segment on the wheel, 1.5625% per spin. The top multiplier reached in a VIP Disco round was 39x at the median, 59.6x on average and 124x at the 90th percentile; the highest we logged was 760x on 2026-07-12. Because it is the rarest segment, the gaps are long: 68.5 spins on average and 522 at the extreme.

The maximum payout per player per round is 500,000, and operators may set it lower. Mechanics for each game in detail, and the full multiplier distributions, are in the bonus rounds guide.

Which rules catch new Funky Time players?

Most complaints in the chat trace back to a handful of misunderstandings.

No chip on the bonus, no bonus. If Stayin' Alive lands and your chips were on 1 and three letters, you watch the balls fall and receive nothing. The bonus round is a payout mechanism for the players who bet on it, not a shared event.

The Digital Wheel is a promise, not a payment. The multiplier applies only when the main wheel stops on the same spot.

Letters are separate bets. A chip on P does not cover L, A or Y; covering the phrase means twelve chips.

Bonus results are often small. A Bar glass holding 5x is a normal outcome, and the top multiplier in a typical Disco round is 12x. The 2,800x and 1,250x headlines are real, but in 90 days only 5 rounds out of 61,998 reached 1,000x or more.

Bar has a timer for your pick. If you do not choose a drink before the countdown ends, the game picks for you. A large stake on any bonus can also run into the 500,000 per round cap.

Does Funky Time work on a phone?

It does, with the same stream, wheel and bet board as the desktop version; Evolution builds one game that adjusts to screen size.

In portrait the video sits on top and the 17 spots stack beneath it, with the letters wrapped into rows. Seventeen tiles on a phone screen are small, so slow down when placing letter bets; tapping I when you meant T is an easy mistake. Landscape spreads the board out and is closer to the desktop layout. The stream uses about as much data as a video call, and the settings menu lets you lower video quality on a weak connection.

There is no Evolution app for Funky Time and no free demo. A live wheel with a host and real payouts cannot run in play-money mode, and any app store result using the name is either a casino's own app or an unrelated imitation. The minimum chip on the 1 spot is the practical way to learn cheaply.

What should you bet on in your first session?

Start with a small chip on 1, add a single letter if you want to see how boosts work, and leave the bonus spots until you understand the timing.

The reasoning comes from the segment counts. The 1 spot covers 28 of 64 segments, hits 43.75% of the time and has the highest RTP in the game at 95.99%, so a chip there keeps you in the round often enough to learn the rhythm without your balance falling quickly. Losing slowly is the best a casino bet can offer.

Letters teach you the boost mechanic. There is a 4.2% chance a chosen letter misses 100 spins in a row, so expect quiet stretches before a 25:1 hit. Watching how often the Digital Wheel lifts your letter, and how rarely the wheel then lands on it, is the fastest lesson in why 1,250x is rare.

Bonus spots are the entertainment, and Bar is the cheapest way in because it is the most frequent. VIP Disco is a poor first bet: there is a 20.7% chance it misses 100 straight spins, and our tracker has seen a 522-spin gap.

Covering all 17 spots is the classic beginner trap. You win something on every spin and lose money overall, because 17 units go out and one spot's payout comes back with a house edge attached. The Funky Time strategy page works through the coverage combinations and what each actually returns.

What does our tracker say before you sit down?

Our tracker records every Funky Time round from the casino.org feed, 165,429 rounds in total as of 2026-08-28, 61,998 of them in the last 90 days. Three views on the live tracker are worth a look before a session.

Segment frequencies. Over 90 days the wheel stopped on 1 in 43.93% of spins, Bar 9.33%, Disco 4.61%, Stayin' Alive 3.19%, VIP Disco 1.46%, and the letters combined 37.48%. Every figure is within 0.2 percentage points of theory. Read it as evidence the wheel behaves as advertised, not as a hint about the next spin.

Bonus and letter multipliers. The medians (Bar 14x, Disco 12x, Stayin' Alive 30x, VIP Disco 39x, letters 25x) are a better guide to expectations than the ceilings. For the bonus games these are the highest multiplier on offer in the round, such as the best glass or the best team, not the average player's payout. Rounds where the multiplier reached 100x or more made up 1.36% of spins over 90 days, 843 rounds in all.

Drought tracker and hot/cold letters. The page shows spins since each bonus and each letter last landed. Long droughts are routine: F has gone 331 spins without appearing, and VIP Disco 522. A drought does not raise the odds of the next hit. The wheel has no memory, and each spin is independent of the last.

The tracker's value is calibration: a bonus about once every five spins, a letter quiet for hundreds of spins now and then. It cannot tell you what to bet.

Playing responsibly

Rounds are quick and the bonus games are built to be exciting. Set a loss limit and a time limit before you open the game, use the casino's deposit and session tools to enforce them, and stop when you reach them whatever the wheel is doing.

Play only with operators licensed where you live, which is what guarantees the real Evolution stream and a paid win, and only if you are of legal gambling age. If the game stops being entertainment, self-exclusion schemes and national helplines exist in every regulated market; our observatory page lists responsible gambling resources.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Funky Time for beginners?

Choose a chip value, then put chips on any of the 17 spots before the betting timer runs out: the number 1, one or more of the 12 letters that spell PLAY FUNKY TIME, or one of the four bonus games. The Digital Wheel spins first and may boost a spot, then the 64-segment wheel spins. Wins on 1 pay 1:1, letters pay 25:1, and bonus spots pay whatever the bonus game produces. Everything settles to your balance automatically.

What do the letters mean in Funky Time?

The 12 letters P, L, A, Y, F, U, N, K, T, I, M and E are separate bet spots that spell PLAY FUNKY TIME. Each letter appears on two of the 64 wheel segments, so any single letter lands 3.125% of the time, and all letters together cover 37.5% of the wheel. A winning letter pays 25:1, and a Digital Wheel boost of up to 50x lifts that to a maximum of 1,250x.

How does the Digital Wheel work in Funky Time?

The Digital Wheel spins before every main wheel spin and assigns random multipliers to one or more bet spots. The number 1 and the letters can be boosted up to 50x; bonus games start with their multipliers raised. The boost only pays if the main wheel then stops on the boosted spot. Our tracker has recorded a 50x payout on the 1 spot and three separate 1,250x letter payouts since December 2025.

How often do the Funky Time bonus games come up?

The four bonus games occupy 12 of the 64 segments, so a bonus lands on 18.75% of spins in theory, and our tracker measured 18.59% over the last 90 days. Bar is the most common at 9.375% per spin, followed by Disco at 4.6875%, Stayin' Alive at 3.125% and VIP Disco at 1.5625%. In our data the average gap between VIP Disco hits was 68.5 spins, and the longest was 522 spins.

Is Funky Time available on mobile?

Yes. Funky Time is a single live stream from Evolution's Riga studio that resizes to any phone, tablet or desktop browser, and it also runs inside casino apps. The 17 bet spots stack under the video in portrait mode. There is no standalone Evolution app and no free demo, because the wheel is physical and every chip is real money. The smallest chip on the 1 spot is the cheapest way to learn.
